What is Fatalism?
Fatalism is the belief that everything that happens in the future is unavoidable, that our future is decided by fate. Because everything in the past, present, and future is unchangeable or set in stone, the past has already been decided by the present, present has already been decided by the future. So, in a fatalist's view, the past is the present, and the present is the future. Therefore, the past is the future. This can be related to Eternalism, as Eternalism states that all past, present, and future are real, as Fatalists also believe that all three of those time occurances are real.
What is Reductionism?
Reductionism is where time doesn't exist independently, but dependent with the events in it. This means that if nothing is happen in the world, we probably wouldn't know if the time was passing or not. Therefore, the present would be dependent on the events happening. The present for this theory would be the events because time exists whenever there is an event occuring. Presentists would argue with this theory, stating that only the present is real, and the present is always changing, as the future comes and goes, and if there's change, there's time. Philosophers who agreed with this were Aristotle and Leibniz.
What is Platonism?
Platonism has the opposite views of reductionism. This theory tells us that time is continuously moving, however, it is independent, and the events that happen are being put into motion. "Time is like an empty container into which things and events may be placed; but it is a container that exists independently of what (if anything) is placed in it" (Markosian). This means that the present is constantly ongoing, since time keeps on moving non-stop. Presentists would agree with this theory rather than Reductionism. Philosophers who agreed with this were Plato, Newton, etc.
